Blowing the Whistle on Fake It Til You Make It – Inspired by Theranos

Inspired by the explosive fraud case against Elizabeth Holmes, the charismatic founder and former CEO of failed tech startup Theranos, this 90-minute program dramatizes a high-stakes whistleblower situation in what some call the "Fake It Til You Make It" culture of Silicon Valley. The program introduces the basics of whistleblower law with a focus on qui tam actions under the False Claims Act, and tips or complaints under the SEC Whistleblower Program, which has just topped $1B in awards to whistleblowers. Guest panelists Debra Katz (Katz, Marshall & Banks, LLP) and Linda Severin (Whistleblower Law Collaborative), both attorneys who specialize in representing whistleblowers in high-stakes cases, will offer their opinions on how to handle those types of situations.
