Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP, 425 Lexington Avenue, New
York, NY 10017
"Who Has Not Libeled the Devil" is a re-creation and reenactment
of the prosecution and trial of publisher John Peter Zenger that
took place in colonial New York City in 1735. Following the
reenactment, a panel featuring First Amendment experts Professor
Michael Tigar and Floyd Abrams, Esq. will discuss the Zenger case's
impact on the development of the law of libel and sedition and in
the evolution of the First Amendment freedoms we enjoy today. They
will also discuss the disparate standards for defamation liability
in the United States and the United Kingdom.
