Jury Issues in the Age of “Blockbuster” Cases and Remote Trials
It seems that 2021 has seen more blockbuster (highly public) cases go to trial than ever, and many trials have proceeded remotely, raising additional challenges. Inspired by the high profile cases involving the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal, this 90-minute program highlights various jury issues that arise in the context of a civil trial. The program introduces the basics of jury selection and voir dire, charging conferences, arguments over jury instructions and verdict forms, and polling the jury, and discusses how the rules and practices vary in federal and state court. There will also be some emphasis on jury trials through remote proceedings.
