First Amendment Program

Please join us on Tuesday, December 10, for the New York American Inn of Court’s First Amendment program. This year’s cutting-edge issues will include: (1) whether a Texas county violated the First Amendment when it selected books to be discarded from the public library because those books supposedly reflected gender, family, ethnic or racial bias.; (2) whether a copper mine can mine a deposit that is directly under a sacred Apache religious site, thereby destroying the site in the process; and (3) whether Wisconsin was correct in denying a religious tax exemption to Catholic Charites because it concluded the charity was not operated for primarily religious purposes. We expect lively debate—not just among the panelists, but from the audience.
