Judge John M. Scheb Inn Meetings and Programs
Each pupillage group must coordinate with the Program
Chair so that a variety of programs demonstrating the practical
aspects of the practice of law before trial and appellate courts
and related activities are presented. Programs are designed to
involve all members of the pupillage group and may include guests.
Pupillage groups should prepare handouts relevant to their programs
and allow adequate time for discussion by members of points
demonstrated in programs.
CLE
CREDIT
CLE credits for programs are arranged by the Program Chair. As
many as seven hours of CLE credit may be earned for yearly
attendance at the Inn programs.
MEETING DATES AND PLACES
Currently, meetings are scheduled to be held in Marina Jack,
typically on the second Tuesday of each month from September
through May, except no meeting is scheduled in December. Meetings
begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. After each monthly membership meeting,
members adjourn for dinner, as arranged by the Hospitality Chair.
Customarily, the May meeting is a social gathering at which time
the annual election of officers is held.
Members are asked to notify the
Inn secretary at least 48 hours in advance of the dinner if they do
not plan on dining so that the Inn will not be charged for their
meal.
GUEST POLICY
While our Inn programs are primarily for the benefit of our
members, members may invite guests. For certain types of programs,
a pupilage group may wish to invite a non-Inn member with
specialized skills or knowledge to participate in their program.
Members who invite guests must inform the Inn president and
secretary of their guest's name and also arrange for payment of
their guest's meal in advance. The cost of meals can be obtained
from the Treasurer.
Judge John M. Scheb Inn Meeting Attendance Requirements
All active members are expected to attend and participate
in each meeting of the Inn. The Executive Committee recognizes that
judges and lawyers must occasionally be absent. The Committee,
however, looks with disfavor on frequent absences. Frequent
absences will have a significant bearing on whether an existing
member is re-invited for membership in a succeeding year. If a
member misses three or more meetings, the Executive Committee will
consider whether that members' participation justifies their
continued involvement in the Inn.
Judge John M. Scheb Inn Pupillage Groups
The Inn is organized annually into pupillage groups, a
structure basic to the English Inns of Court. Each group is
composed of one or more Masters and a number of barristers,
associates, and where feasible, a pupil. Generally, a judge or
senior lawyer will be assigned as the leader of each pupilage
group. Currently, the Executive Committee creates six pupillage
groups, with one group responsible for presenting a program lasting
no more than one hour at each monthly meeting.
