Thank to all that attended our Awards & Kickoff Event!

In addition to honoring the outstanding program of the 2016 - 2017 year ("Ethical Family Feud"), we celebrated the newest member of the bench, Shashi Kewalramani, and also bestowed the prestigious Andrew J. Guilford Award upon founding member and attorney extraordinaire, Joseph Re. Congratulations to Joe, Shashi, and all of our distinguished honorees!

 

October 17, 2017

On October 17, Pupilage Group 3 presented "Venue After TC Heartland," a mock hearing before a federal judge on whether, in light of TC Heartland and In Re Cray, venue is proper for a patent litigation asserted against a foreign corporation without a physical presence in the United States. The role of the federal judge was played by our very own Honorable James Selna!

October 21, 2017

Congratulations to our very own Christina Von der Ahe Rayburn, for receiving the prestigious 2017 American Inns of Court Sandra Day O'Connor Award for Professional Service. Christy was presented with the award at the American Inns of Court's annual Celebration of Excellence at the Supreme Court of the United States. The event was hosted by Associate Justice Elena Kagan. Way to go Christy!

November 14, 2017

On November 14, Pupilage Group 6 presented the fascinating panel discussion, "The Art of Persuasion in Intellectual Property: Advice for a Young Lawyer." The panel was moderated by our esteemed member, Bill Rooklidge, and was based loosely on a paper he co-authored with the Honorable Martha K. Gooding many years ago.

January 23, 2018

In our first Inn Meeting of 2018, Pupilage Group 2 presented the program, "Inventorship Mystery Dinner Theater." Our members were divided into teams, presented with a fact pattern, allowed to interview witnesses (!), and asked to formulate an analysis relating to patent inventorship issues. The interactive presentation followed by a great panel discussion led by Lester Savit. What a way to start off the New Year! 

March 6, 2018

On March 6, Pupilage Group 1 presented the entertaining program, "Jeopardy! IP Litigation in the ITC." Markey Inn members were treated to a primer on the ITC, interesting new developments, and a challenging quiz at the end. Thanks to Orrick for hosting a fabulous evening.

 

April 10, 2018

New developments in Copyright law was the topic of Pupilage Group 5's insightful presentation, "Blurred APIs" on April 10, 2018. Thank you to UC Irvine's Law School for hosting a fabulous event . . . and congratulations to Pieter "Markman" Van Es for winning the Kahoot! competition!

At our Final Inn Meeting of the season, Pupilage Group 4 gave us insightful cross-examination tips in its program, "Working with an Expert Witness." Our members were also treated to a concise and practical summary of the Supreme Court's recent Oil States and SAS opinions. Thanks everyone for a great year!
