In 2011, a new American Inn of Court chapter in Lubbock was chartered and designated by its founding members as The Texas Tech University School of Law American Inn of Court. It held its first meeting on April 9, 2013.

The mission of the American Inns of Court, and of the Texas Tech University School of Law Inn, is to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills. Currently, there are more than 350 Inns throughout the United States.

The American Inns of Court recognizes individual Inns that achieve excellence and make significant contributions in five core competencies: Administration, Communications, Programs, Mentoring, and Outreach. Since its inception, the Texas Tech University School of Law Inn has rapidly grown in recognition, reaching Platinum Level status, the highest level, in the 2016-2017 Inn year.

Membership of the Texas Tech University School of Law Inn is divided into Pupilage Groups, with each group consisting of judges, attorneys, and students, each designated by seniority and level of experience as Masters, Barristers, Associates, and Pupils. The Inn's regular meetings are hosted by the Texas Tech University School of Law, which annually nominates distinguished law students to participate in the Inn as Pupils. Throughout the year, each Pupilage Group either undertakes a service project or gives a presentation on current issues of legal interest.
