New Member Orientation
2015 - 2016
The Johnson County Family Law American Inn of Court New Member
Orientation is a process, rather than a discrete event. For
2015-16, the Orientation process began when new members were
invited to attend the year end Inn Social Event, at which event new
Inn members became acquainted with current Inn members in a purely
social environment. New members were thereafter required to
attend a formal New Member Orientation Meeting on August 25, 2015,
which meeting was convened at the home of Master Ellen S.
Goldman. Inn Officers and Committee Chairs also attended.
The agenda for the New Member Orientation Meeting was as
follows:
I.
Introduction/Welcome. The Inn President, Honorable
Keven M.P. O'Grady, welcomed new members to The Johnson County
Family Law American Inn of Court, introduced the Officers,
Committee Chairs, and made introductory remarks. Judge
O'Grady discussed the general history, structure, mission and
objectives of our Inn, and he addressed Inn policies and
procedures. He noted that all Inn members have
responsibilities and are expected to actively participate, and he
emphasized that membership in the Inn offers innumerable benefits,
including first-rate formal (CLE) and informal (mentoring) training
and invaluable networking opportunities.
II. Officers and
Committee Chairs. Each Officer and Committee Chair
made a brief individual presentation regarding his/her specific
duties, responsibilities and role within the Inn. Committee
Chairs described the purpose and responsibilities of their
respective committees and invited new members to volunteer for
specific Committees of interest.
III.
Question/Answer Session. Following the presentations
by the Officers and Committee Chairs, the floor was open for
questions, after which the New Member Orientation Meeting was
adjourned.
Following
the New Member Orientation Meeting, the orientation process
continued with individual pupilage team meetings, which meetings
were conducted in August and September. Via the
individual pupilage team meetings, new members were introduced to
and familiarized with their roles and responsibilities on their
specific pupilage
teams.
