A Trial Advocacy Inn
About the Worrall F. Mountain Inn of Court
Only five years after the American Inns of Court Foundation was
organized by the Judicial Conference of the United States, the
Worrall F. Mountain AIC chapter was formed to promote its ideals of
professionalism in the bar of Morris, Sussex and Warren counties.
Meeting in Morristown, the Worrall F. Mountain Inn was chartered as
the 97th Inn of Court on June 1, 1990. The Honorable Peter N.
Conforti, J.S.C. served as its first president, followed by the
Honorable John Harper, J.S.C. in 1992 and the current president,
John C. Maloney, Jr., Esq., of Zuber Lawler & Del Duca LLP.
The Mountain Inn is based upon a training model in which Pupils
participate in a structured trial advocacy program under the
guidance and tutelage of more experienced members of the bar and
bench. The Inn's programs focus on civil litigation from discovery
through appeal, but seek to expose its members to a broad range of
issues for which a practitioner may be called upon, including
municipal, criminal, chancery and matrimonial, to name a few. Led
by a group of distinguished Masters, many of its Pupils have
continued in the Inn as Barristers and Masters to create a
constantly evolving program and membership, while retaining a core
of expertise and feeling of camaraderie. Upon occasion, the Inn's
program will feature a lecturer having special expertise or show
and discuss a video, examine and cross-examine actual experts, or
stage appellate arguments before appellate court judges.
Over the years, the Mountain Inn has had the honor of the
membership of approximately 15 Superior Court judges. Currently, it
boasts about 46 active members, including two Superior Court
judges. The Inn meets on every fourth Monday each month, except
July and August, and guests are welcome.
Since its inception, the Mountain Inn gained prominence
throughout the American Inns of Court movement. It has the
distinction of electing two successive Pupil Trustees and Mr.
Maloney as the Third-Circuit Trustee to the National Board of
Directors and has been consistently represented at the AIC National
Leadership Conferences for a number of years. It especially
encourages its Pupils to attend regional and national programs by
sponsoring one or more members annually.
