The Ronald N. Davies Inn of Court

Welcomes You!

Our Inn is composed of judges, lawyers, law students, and other legal professionals from the cities of Fargo, North Dakota, Moorhead, Minnesota, and the surrounding areas.  We meet regularly each month (September through April) to discuss important issues related to the profession and practice of law, ethics, civility, and to promoting the highest values and ethics of a society based upon the rule of law.

As part of our commitment to professional development, we work to encourage mentorship and professionalism between senior members of the Bench and Bar and our junior members.  We also strive to foster a community of inclusion and diversity, that is representative of our beautiful (and cross-jurisdictional) communities.

On our website you will find information related to our Inn (meeting times, dates, and location), information relating to the national American Inns of Court, as well as a directory listing our many distinguished members.

Finally, our Inn is named after an honored member of the Bar--Ronald N. Davies.  Appropriately for our multi-state (Minnesota and North Dakota) Inn, Davies was born in Crookston, Minnesota, and died in Fargo, North Dakota (at the age of 91).  In that long life-time, he practiced law in Grand Forks (home to his [and to many of our members'] alma mater, the University of North Dakota), and served as a judge for the Grand Forks Municipal Court.  Following service to the United States in the Army during World War II, Davies returned to the private practice of law, before being nominated to the United States District Court by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  Judge Davies assumed his commission on July 27, 1955.  In his long tenure on the Court, Judge Davies issued many decisions, including one that will live forever in history books.  While on temporary assignment to the Eastern District of Arkansas, Judge Davies issued the order mandating the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School.

Our Inn continues to honor Judge Davies' commitment to the highest standards of the profession and of the law.  And we are proud to recognize our many past and current judicial members of the Inn--including Judge Ralph Erickson (United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit), United States Magistrate Judge Alice Senechal (North Dakota), Judge Steven Cahill (Seventh Judicial District, Minnesota), Judge John Irby (Cass County District Court, North Dakota), Judge Steven Marquart (Cass County District Court, North Dakota), and Judge Tom Olson (Cass County District Court, North Dakota).

We welcome legal professionals from all stages of their career, and all practice areas.  In that spirit of welcome, please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of the Board of our Inn for information about joining.

Sincerely yours,

Michael Brandon Lopez, President

Rachel Gehrig, Vice-President

Jennifer Braun, Treasurer

Ashley Champ, Secretary

Tom Olson, Judicial Counselor
