Membership Information

The John Marshall Inn has over 100 active members, composed of the following categories of members:

  • Masters of the Bench: Lawyers with at least 10 years of experience, judges, and law professors
  • Barristers: Lawyers with less than 10 years of practice experience, including time spent clerking post graduation 
  • Students: Third Year Students from the University of Richmond School of Law.  Law student members are nominated by the Inn's Law School Liaison, Professor Hamilton Bryson, and admitted to the Inn after a vote by the Executive Committee.  

By becoming a member of the John Marshall American Inn of Court, individuals automatically become members of the American Inns of Court Foundation. The Foundation provides many services, including a publishing a bi-monthly newsletter, a National Membership Directory, maintaining a national program library, and holding a National Conference annually. Interested in Membership?

Contact the Membership Chair for information regarding joining the Inn.  Any current Inn member may nominate a potential new member.  The Executive Committee votes to accept new members annually in the spring/summer, before the Inn's first regular meeting in September.
