Call for Mentors

We are happy to announce that due to the high degree of law student interest in the Honorable Arthur L. Moller-David B. Foltz Jr. American Inn of Courts'  Mentor/Mentee program, we are currently seeking additional Inn members to volunteer to participate as Mentors.  Accordingly, if you are interested in supporting this program by volunteering as a Mentor, please contact Travis Torrence.  As a Mentor, you will generally be tasked with guiding your Mentee during a few meetings over the remainder of the Inn year.  Being a Mentor is an extremely rewarding experience that requires a very small amount of your time.  This program is also beneficial to the Inn as a form of community outreach and membership marketing.  We hope you will volunteer.

Inn Members Provide Pro Bono Services to Veterans

On September 4, 2015, members of The Honorable Arthur L. Moller-David B. Foltz Jr. American Inn of Court provided pro bono services to U.S. veterans by participating in the Veterans Legal Initiative's Free Friday Clinic at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.  The Veterans Legal Initiative, which was established in 2008 by the Houston Bar Association, Houston Bar Foundation, and Houston Volunteer Lawyers, provides free legal advice and legal representation to U.S. veterans.  Any veteran, or spouse of a deceased veteran, can get advice and counsel at one of the clinics offered by the VLI.  Low-income veterans who need further legal representation in civil matters and meet eligibility guidelines can be assigned a pro bono attorney through the Houston Volunteer Lawyers, a public service of the Houston Bar Association.  To date, the program has served over 11,000 veterans with advice and counsel and/or legal representation.  More than 400 attorneys have volunteered to assist with the Veterans' Legal Initiative.   Photos from the event are available here.
