The C.H. Ferguson M.E. White American Inn of Court brings together a cross-section of lawyers, law students, and judges interested in furthering the goals of the American Inns of Court.
The Inn members are categorized as follows:
- Masters of the Bench (Benchers): Members who are federal or state judges in active status or who are retired but not actively engaged in the practice of law.
- Academic Masters: Members who are full-time faculty members of an ABA-accredited law school.
- Masters: Members admitted to the practice of law for at least 15 years at the beginning of their term of membership.
- Barristers: Members admitted to the practice of law for at least 5 years at the beginning of their term of membership.
- Associates: Members admitted to the practice of law for 5 or fewer years at the beginning of their term of membership.
- Students: Members currently enrolled in the study of law at ABA-accredited law schools, to be selected by an Academic Master.
- Emeritus: A Bencher, an Academic Master, or a Master whose body of work or contributions warrant special status, in the discretion of the Board of Directors.
The members are grouped into "Pupillage Groups" each of which generally includes members from several categories. Each Pupillage Group is responsible for conducting one program a year for the Inn.
