We will begin the 2025 calendar year with a series of presentations from pupilage groups composed of our members.  Our first pupilage group is led by Lora Krsulich (Goodwin Proctor) and Argie Mina (Kirkland & Ellis) and they will lead their group in discussing: Clean Up in Section 284: How EcoFactor v. December 5, 2024: IP Mediation Showdown: An Interactive Guide to Settling Disputes Without Throwing Down

For our third event of the 2024-2025 term, we were treated to a lively and fascinating discussion on IP mediation issues by several former jurists from the Central District of California.  We would like to extend our greatest thanks to Hon. Jay C. Gandhi (Ret.)Hon. Philip S. Gutierrez (Ret.)Hon. S. James Otero (Ret.); and Hon. Michael R. Wilner (Ret.) for joining us and leading our discussion.

October 28, 2024:  Talks & Treats: New Members Host IP Roundtable

For the second event of the 2024-2025 term, we were incredibly grateful to have several newer members present on wide-ranging IP topics of their choice for an IP Roundtable. We would like to thank:

  • Graham Cole (City of Hope) for his insights on working effectively with in-house counsel;
  • Louis Dorny (Tesla) for his perspective on modern mentorship for IP litigators;
  • Jacob Ma (USC Gould School of Law) for his analysis of recent Federal Circuit design patent decisions;
  • Bert Schiettecatte (Noisetron) for his guidance on conducting software code reviews with expert witnesses; and
  • Jeff Kichaven (Jeff Kichaven Mediation) for demonstrating three effective "mediation moves" for negotiations.

September 25, 2024: Reflections on the C.D. Cal. Patent Program and What Lies Ahead

The first event of the 2024-2025 term was a panel discussion, "Reflections on the C.D. Cal. Patent Program and What Lies Ahead," to discuss the end of the Patent Pilot program in the Central District of California.  We were graciously hosted by Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher LLP and honored to be joined by three jurists from the Central District of California: The Honorable André Birotte Jr., The Honorable Wesley L. Hsu, and The Honorable Michael R. WilnerKaty Carlyle, the last serving patent pilot clerk for the Central District, moderated.  We thank everyone who attended and participated in the lively discussion.  

      

             

2023-2024 Term:

The last event of the 2023-2024 term was an Advocacy Challenge & Social Dinner co-sponsored with the Judge Howard T. Markey (Orange County) IP Inn of Court.  We thank the Judge Howard T Markey IP Inn of Court for traveling from Orange County to attend the advocacy challenge.  We were honored and grateful to have The Honorable Shashi H. Kewalramani, The Honorable Wesley L. Hsu, and The Honorable Rozella A. Oliver as judges.
